Monster File Folder Game

April 18, 2015 By Valerie Mcclintick Leave a Comment

My boys are crazy about Monsters.

I’m not sure why but they love creepy, goopy, slimy looking creatures, but they do.

Monsters can be cute too though right?

MonsterBrothersImage

My four year old drew these silly Monster Brothers and I thought they were absolutely adorable.

(Side Note: Scan your children’s artwork into your computer to save them)

I was also to happy to find these Silly Wacky Monsters from Daily Art Hub because I knew they would make for some adorable games and worksheets!

MonsterMake10Worksheet

Make 10 Monster Worksheet

Use this worksheet to reinforce key number bonds that make 10.  Children can use counters to cover the monsters while they compute the equations.

MonsterMathGame

 Make 10 Monster Truck Game

This is a great game to play with children who are learning number bonds that add up to 10.  Children choose a wheel and then find the correct second wheel to solve the equation.

Printable Word Family Game

CrayonWordFamilyPin

Word families are words that have the same ending sound, “back,” “sack,” and “rack” are all in the “ack” word family.

Teaching children to listen to ending sounds and rhyming words is a great way to build early reading skills.

Consonant Blends Learning Center

February 8, 2015 By Valerie Mcclintick 1 Comment

LetterSBlendsLargePin

Well, my kindergartner is finally ready to start talking without all those slurred S sounds.

(I may not be ready for it, but he certainly is)

Personally, I think it is adorable when he says “Pagetti” instead of spaghetti and “Tooter” instead of scooter.

But alas, he is nearing 6 years old and it’s time to provide some gentle guidance towards correct pronunciation.

I made this letter S blends learning game specifically for him :)

SBlendsGamePlay

The game comes with twenty-eight different pictures of letter s consonant blends for children to match up with the correct beginning letters.

With our easy assemble learning centers It couldn’t be easier to get this game setup and ready. Simply glue the gameboards to the file folder, and punch out the circle pictures with a 1.5 inch circle punch. Your kiddos will be mastering their S sounds in no time.

Teaching Tots

January 14, 2012 By Valerie Mcclintick 5 Comments

It’s been a long time,
but I finally have another TOT in the house.

Monkey is 2 1/2 and in full on TOT mode.

Which means he wants to do “school” like his older siblings,
but he has the attention span of a…

Well…….

of a Monkey

But he absolutely MUST be keep busy.

As we all know
That if we don’t keep little Monkey busy,

He’ll keep himself busy…..

and then we’ll all be busy

So here is one way that we keep little Monkey busy:

I made the game using Jolanthe’s beautiful Color Matching Cards
and then laminating pieces of colored paper onto which I wrote the color names.
In hindsight, I should have written the Spanish words on the back as well.

We play by drawing a card and matching it to the correct pile.

Simple. But Busy.

Very, Very Busy.

Science Activities: Human Body

September 16, 2011 By Valerie Mcclintick 5 Comments

We are officially ending our second week of school, and I never
updated my Curriculum post to share what we finally
decided on for Science.

It actually took me quite a while to decide on what to do for science.
And I still don’t know what we’ll be doing for the ENTIRE year,
but I’ve finally got a good handle on the first few weeks!

I looked a a whole bunch of curriculum, but one day I was walking through
a bookstore and I spotted this:

human body science notebooks
Children’s Human Body Encyclopedia
The price was $9. and somewhere the frugal homeschooler
in me was inspired.

I had been looking at $30-$50 curriculum
and I just couldn’t resist the under $10 appeal…
I bought two of them, one for Sissy and one for Bubba.
(This will be our first year where each child has the same text book!)

I figured we’d just go through each topic together,
reading out of the text, and I’d supplement with our
own discussions (about God’s design) and our own
crafts and activities.

Later on I found these little gems to add to our Science Curriculum:

human body crafts

My First Human Body Activity Book
(This has amazing coloring pages of body systems)

my body printables
My Body
This book has reproducible patterns you can use to make
you’re own life size human body diagram.
(I got this one as an e-book)

So using these resources we’re going to be making a Human Body Science journal!
Starting off with SKIN!!

We’ve had a blast reading all about our skin,
and the kids have been loving all the different activities we’ve been
doing alongside them. We do science two days a week,
so over the last two weeks we had quite of bit of fun things to
add to our Science Journals.

I posted all of our activities and links to what we did on our main site,
but here’s a sneak peek at a few projects:

Sunscreen Science Project

Fingerprint Art

Science Journals

Come take a second to see the rest of our skin activities!

Oh, and if you see a little blue pencil in the title of the activity,
it’s something that can be added into your science journal!

Hopefully the ideas will inspire you to make you’re own journals!
And Stay Tuned……next up is the Human Brain!!
