Make 10 Printable Game

April 8, 2015 By Valerie Mcclintick Leave a Comment

Make10GameMaking ten games are always a great way to build key math skills for your Kindergarten and First Grade kiddos.  Children can easily memorize which numbers can be joined together to make 10, and it’s a skill that will be important through out their entire lives!
Peek

Ten Frame Boards are simple boards with ten squares.

Usually a portion of the squares are filled in with marker (7 are filled above) and it’s the child’s job to figure out how many more need to be added to make 10.

Children can visually see that three more are needed so they can place the markers accordingly.

MathCounters

(btw……we love these counters here)

Anyway, I wanted to create a game that included the actual numbers on the Make 10 boards.

Can you tell that I really want my boys to do some quick memorizing of these number bonds?

I’m hoping that soon they will start to identify the missing number without counting.

This is also a great early introduction to algebra, you could say something like “Oooh, we have a mystery number!!  7 plus what = 10?”

The set includes 10 different number bonds, you simply cut them out as shown above and let children match them back up again.   I thought perhaps the numbers might be a bit confusing, which is why I colored the markers orange and purple, so I would encourage children to make sure each number bond has different colors.

Consonant Blends Learning Center

February 8, 2015 By Valerie Mcclintick 1 Comment

LetterSBlendsLargePin

Well, my kindergartner is finally ready to start talking without all those slurred S sounds.

(I may not be ready for it, but he certainly is)

Personally, I think it is adorable when he says “Pagetti” instead of spaghetti and “Tooter” instead of scooter.

But alas, he is nearing 6 years old and it’s time to provide some gentle guidance towards correct pronunciation.

I made this letter S blends learning game specifically for him :)

SBlendsGamePlay

The game comes with twenty-eight different pictures of letter s consonant blends for children to match up with the correct beginning letters.

With our easy assemble learning centers It couldn’t be easier to get this game setup and ready. Simply glue the gameboards to the file folder, and punch out the circle pictures with a 1.5 inch circle punch. Your kiddos will be mastering their S sounds in no time.

Editable File Folder Game

March 13, 2014 By Valerie Mcclintick 1 Comment

File folder games are a great way to add a little kick to your classroom!

We have an entire website dedicated to free file folder games you can print and play with your kiddos.  There are all sorts of games separated by age and subject, but just in case you can’t find the exact game you’re looking for, we decided to make an editable game board you can customize to your liking:

GameBoardPin

With this game you can edit the squares around the board, and the question cards.  This is a great way to review any subject that needs a little jazzing up.

EditableGameBoard1

EditableGameBoard2

EditableGameCardsColor

Tips & Ideas:

Use a die that only has numbers up to 3.

Sneak in a little math by using two dice and subtracting the smaller from the larger to get the number to move.

Game cards have room to write in the answers upside down.

Play so that children answer a question first, then roll and move if they are correct.

Teaching Tots

January 14, 2012 By Valerie Mcclintick 5 Comments

It’s been a long time,
but I finally have another TOT in the house.

Monkey is 2 1/2 and in full on TOT mode.

Which means he wants to do “school” like his older siblings,
but he has the attention span of a…

Well…….

of a Monkey

But he absolutely MUST be keep busy.

As we all know
That if we don’t keep little Monkey busy,

He’ll keep himself busy…..

and then we’ll all be busy

So here is one way that we keep little Monkey busy:

I made the game using Jolanthe’s beautiful Color Matching Cards
and then laminating pieces of colored paper onto which I wrote the color names.
In hindsight, I should have written the Spanish words on the back as well.

We play by drawing a card and matching it to the correct pile.

Simple. But Busy.

Very, Very Busy.

Fish, Flowers,Frogs….and a Flashback!

September 9, 2011 By Valerie Mcclintick 5 Comments

Did you know that I started blogging/websites when
my daughter was a preschooler?

In fact, my first website was dedicated to this age:
(ChristianPreschoolPrintables)

Psssst….Wanna see what CPP looked like when I first
started out in 2006? Pretty Rockin’ eh?

Ha!

Now it’s 2011 and my Sissy is entering 3rd grade.
My Bubba is entering 1st grade.
And my Monkey is teetering on Tot-Preschool Age.

It FEELS like
It’s been so LONG since I’ve had a Preschooler.
And now my little Monkey is almost there.
Almost.

Currently, Monkey is 2 years old and able to sit still
for about 4 1/2 minutes. A Day.

I know you think I’m exaggerating.

But, I love when people ASK ME what I do with Monkey
while I’m teaching the older children.
I really try not to burst out laughing.
If you only knew….

You see, usually when someone is asking that questions, what they
really want to know is:

WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS CRAZY MONKEY
WHEN I NEED TO TEACH _________.
(Fill in the blank with something that is hard to teach
when a buck naked, curly haired little primate is running circles
around your ankles, begging for “sippy” and “juice” and “cake” and “frogs”
and anything else that you don’t have in your pocket)

Cause somedays that’s really what it’s like.
Not all. But some.

(most days I really have to recall the words written in this book)

But, during the times in which my little Monkey wants
to quietly sit at the table for 4 1/2 mintues,
I want to have something fun and educational for him to do.

So tonight I made him some simple matching games,
with colorful REAL photographs that a little Monkey
can appreciate.

One with Frogs:

One with Flowers:

One with Fish:

Then (with all those F’s) I got to thinking that
I could make this into something a bit more FUN!
Something for my older kiddos to play:

A game for them to play in the wee hours of the morning

Perhaps long enough for a certain someone to sleep in
an extra hour or two.

So this is how I left the kitchen table:

I’m pretty sure my plan is going to work.
(I mean…What kid wants to go smell Mom’s morning breath
when they have a game like this to play?)

Seriously children.
The cereal is in the bottom cupboard for a reason.

Psssst…. Wanna sleep in like me?
