Valentine’s Day Art Project for Kids

February 8, 2021 By Crafty Team 2 Comments

Your kids are going to absolutely love this Valentine’s Day Art Project. Valentine’s Day is also a great time to introduce heart shapes to your little ones as well. With just a few simple steps, you could make this a keepsake, card or framed gift for a loved one.

If you have older children, it’s a great craft project for multiple ages. While this craft may look difficult, it’s simple with our step by step instructions and easy to follow video tutorial. However you decide to showcase your beautiful work of art, it’s memories will last a lifetime.

Valentine’s Day Craft Matericals

While there are a ton of fun Valentine’s Day Crafts out there, this holiday craft is creative, crafty, and clever. In just a few minutes with just a few materials, your child will have a gorgeous masterpiece for display.

  • Heart Shape Craft Template
  • Bleeding Tissue Paper (different than normal tissue paper)
  • Elmers Glue
  • Scissors
  • White Cardstock
  • Black Construction Paper
  • Container with water
  • Paintbrush

3D Heart Art Project for Kids

  1. Print our free Heart Shape Craft Template on white cardstock paper. The paper will get fairly wet, so you’ll want thick paper if possible. Turn over the template so that you are creating it on the backside of the paper.

2. Use water to wet the paper a bit, then add the bleeding tissue paper circles in an overlapping fashion. Think about color choices placed together so that you have colors blending into different complementary colors to help the artwork pop. Check out the first photo above noting the matching color tones.

3. Add water over the top of the circles to confirm they are bleeding the colors onto the paper. Be careful with how much water you are adding — the colors may get washed out a bit or look fuzzy. Use just enough water to transfer. If you’d like to practice, first, try it on scrap paper for a test “run” (pun intended).

4. Once you have the outline filled with tissue paper, set the project aside to dry. To speed up the drying process, grab a blowdryer and set it to “low”.

5. When dry, shake or peel off the tissue paper. Once the tissue paper is removed, the color looks beautiful. Flip your project back over so you can see your gorgeous heart shape outline.

6. Cut out all of the shapes following the black lines so that your heart and L-O-V-E letters are in several pieces. Stay organized as you cut, as you’ll be reassembling the pattern next.

7. It’s time to choose a dark piece of construction paper as your background. Begin laying out each element of the Heart and Letters in their respective order following the picture’s pattern. HINT: Leave space in between each heart pattern — it will help make your 3D Heart Shape POP!

8. Glue all pieces in sequential order as shown above.

That’s it — only 8 simple steps for a gorgeous 3-D Heart Shaped Craft! Now, don’t forget to frame your project to ensure it lasts a lifetime! What a fun Val’s Day decoration to pull out each February season.

If you’d like to scale down this project and create a set of unique Valentine’s Day cards, it’s really simple to do. Just set your printer to print multiple pages per sheet — do a search on “how to print multiple pages per sheet for …” with printer name if you’re unsure. Once you set it up, you’ll have a template that’s perfect for cards of any holiday or occasion.

  • DAB & DOT: Students use daubers to dab by number in order to reveal the mystery picture. (Hold at a distance to help students see the pictures).
  • DOT & POKE: Students cut apart the halves. Students solve the dot to dot activities. Then, students use a push pin to poke a picture onto colored construction paper. See full instructions below.
  • LISTENING SKILL SHEETS: Teachers will read the directions aloud and the student listens carefully to finish the task. Tasks involve fine motor elements, coloring, and prepositional positioning of drawings
  • CUISENAIRE™ ROD PICTURES Students use colorful centimeter rods to build thematic pictures.  Students are asked to color the rod key to show how many rods they used of each color.

This pack includes 40 pages of hands-on activities and resources you can use to enhance your classroom for an entire month. These resources have specifically been developed to keep the prep work to a minimum, while providing ample opportunity for your students to build their small motor muscles.

Love Bible Minibook for Kids

January 14, 2018 By Valerie Mcclintick 3 Comments

It’s almost one month before Valentine’s Day and today I’ve got a special Bible Verse minibook based on LOVE!  This printable book is based off of 1 Corinthians 13, and shows children the character quality of LOVE in action.

Print LOVE Book Here

Printing & Assembly: This printable book is available in color or black and white and is intended to be printed on both sides of the paper.  Be sure to choose double-sided, flip on the short edge in your printer settings.   If you print with color be sure to use cardstock paper as the color bleeds through.   Once printed, fold the booklet in half, and in half again (so that the cover is correct).  You can then cut the page apart or trim the top, then staple together.   (Don’t worry if that is too confusing you can just cut apart the pages, place them in order and staple together.)

Jesus Loves Me Coloring Page

ValentineColoringPage

While I have been SUPER busy updating our website here, I haven’t forgotten completley about the coming holiday weekend.

If you’re a newsletter subscribers you’ve already received this huge list of Valentine Bible Printables, Crafts and Teaching Resources, but this one today is something NEW!

Jesus Loves Me Coloring Page

I recently found some adorable heart graphics at The Learning Tree and I knew they would be perfect coloring for little hands.  They are nice and thick (i.e. forgving) and they have tons of patterns  (i.e. children can use tons of different colors) so they are sure to keep your little ones happy and busy this week.  I added in the text “Jesus Loves Me” and thought that this might make a great Valentine’s Day place mat craft if you glued it to construction paper or laminated it when your child was done.  Either way, just print and color…..it couldn’t be simpler!

Love Bible Verses for Children

February 6, 2012 By Valerie Mcclintick 19 Comments

Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to share God’s love with children!
We’ve got some fantastic Preschool resources for you to use this year,
and now we’ve got a few activities for you your older kiddos as well.

Valentine’s Day Bible Activity Pack

This Valentine’s Day teach children the TRUE meaning of the word LOVE! This Bible-based, Christian Activity Pack includes 30 pages of multi-age activities, games, crafts and more. Designed to be low-prep and hands-on to keep little hearts and minds engaged.

Today I wanted to highlight how to use one of our new Valentine’s Day resources:

This little printable craft would be a great way for children to learn some
bible verses on love.

For each child you’ll need to print up the envelope
(on cardstock for best results)

The outside of the envelope reads,
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11

This is a very important verse, as children grow they must learn
that what is hidden in their heart is what comes out during times of trial.
( i.e. LIFE )

Once assembled you’ll see that the back of the envelope
contains eight different scriptures for children to memorize
as well as a little space to check off each verse.

These verses coorespond with a set of printable bible hearts, (page 1 page 2)

These are black and white verses, so you can print them onto colored paper
(yea for saving ink!)

Now, of course you can use these HOWEVER you like
Maybe handing out a full set to your students to take home,
Printing on cardstock and attaching to a lollipop, or even
Just using them to add to Valentine’s day cards and crafts.
(we’ve even got a few more printables to help with that)

But I would suggest that you actively use them
to help children commit these verses to memory.

Then as a child successfully recites each verse,
you give them the corresponding heart to put into their pocket.

(Thus, the verses in the pocket represent the verses they have hidden in their heart)

Maybe you do one or two each year…maybe the entire set…
Maybe you just keep this as a special teaching tool you pull out every Valentine’s Day.

Whatever you do with them don’t use them as a
“Hey! Look another thing I started but never finished” tool.

You know that guilt inducing tool we homeschool mom’s are so familiar with

Just have fun with it!
And if it overwhelms you Pin it and we’ll know that you’re “virtually doing it”

Valentine’s Day Card Craft

January 26, 2012 By Valerie Mcclintick 8 Comments

Don’t you just LOVE Pinterest?

I love that you can follow people and see THEIR pins,
and then “repin” it to your own boards.

A virtual “To-Do” cork board of that never runs out of space!

Anyway, this week I saw these adorable Secret Valentines,
and I was inspired to make our own version:

These would be super simple for even very young children to make.

First print up the template and have them color in the cross with a white crayon.

Just to see how it worked, I did one with crayon and one with oil pastel

Then you just make stripes across your paper.
All the while using language like “long strokes” “blending” “overlapping”
(You get the picture right?)

Fill up those hearts till their full of color!
(idea: Maybe use the salvation colors too)

Cut and trim away the extra paper.
Have children pastes these to a card or write a message or bible verse on the back. I’m sure these would look wonderful glued to those little paper heart doilies you can get at the Dollar Store!

If you want to make your own, I’ve posted the template on our sister site ChristianPreschoolPrintables.com. There is a BW & Color version.
