Stained Glass Nativity Craft

December 4, 2013 By Valerie Mcclintick 3 Comments

StaineGlassNativity

Christmas always comes faster then I’m prepared for.

I remember it was even faster when I had lesson plans to prepare for.

This is a quick and easy craft that will give you beautiful results.

(You might remember that we’ve used this technique on our Stained Glass Easter Craft)

NativityStainedGlass

Download: Nativity

So here’s the deal.

You can either print that page on vellum paper and color it in with markers

-or- a more budget friendly and FUN way is to print it on regular paper and then do the following:

20131117_074422

Color your paper with marker.  Encourage children to leave areas of white or to use their yellow pen to highlight the tops of each section.

20131117_074455

When your page is colored, flip it over and apply oil to the back.  I used a canola oil and a paper towel to rub it in.  You’ll instantly see the oil soaking in.  Oil the entire page.

20131117_074705

Let dry, then Hang up in a sunny window.  You can see in my image the oiled area lets the light through.  You can even get creative with what areas you oil and don’t oil for a different effect (see that little oil spot near the bottom of the page)

I think a window full of these would be beautiful in a classroom window!

Be sure you subscribe for exclusive printables, tips and resources.

Siggy

DIY Stained Glass Coloring Pages

March 26, 2013 By Valerie Mcclintick Leave a Comment

So last week, while browsing around Pinterest,
I found this cheepo way to make DIY stained glass coloring pages.

And the timing couldn’t have been better.
(As my children had just tore out the very last page in their stained glass coloring book)

So I thought I’d give it a try to see if we got a comparable result:

Not bad right?

The sun kept popping in and out from behind the clouds, so this shot is a tad more “cloudy”
but you can see the DIY on the left and the purchased on the right.
So the DIV version is not EXACTLY the same as a prepaid sheet,
but it is way cheaper then buying a set of pages or even a stack of vellum to print on.

Plus you can really turn ANY coloring page into a stained glass project.
And what kiddo does’t love to see their own creations on display?

Just in case you wanted to try out this method for yourself,
I whipped up some beautiful Easter pages that would look great as stained glass.

Head on over to our main site for the printable pages and the full tutorial!

Blessings,

Valerie

Love Bible Verses for Children

February 6, 2012 By Valerie Mcclintick 19 Comments

Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to share God’s love with children!
We’ve got some fantastic Preschool resources for you to use this year,
and now we’ve got a few activities for you your older kiddos as well.

Valentine’s Day Bible Activity Pack

This Valentine’s Day teach children the TRUE meaning of the word LOVE! This Bible-based, Christian Activity Pack includes 30 pages of multi-age activities, games, crafts and more. Designed to be low-prep and hands-on to keep little hearts and minds engaged.

Today I wanted to highlight how to use one of our new Valentine’s Day resources:

This little printable craft would be a great way for children to learn some
bible verses on love.

For each child you’ll need to print up the envelope
(on cardstock for best results)

The outside of the envelope reads,
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11

This is a very important verse, as children grow they must learn
that what is hidden in their heart is what comes out during times of trial.
( i.e. LIFE )

Once assembled you’ll see that the back of the envelope
contains eight different scriptures for children to memorize
as well as a little space to check off each verse.

These verses coorespond with a set of printable bible hearts, (page 1 page 2)

These are black and white verses, so you can print them onto colored paper
(yea for saving ink!)

Now, of course you can use these HOWEVER you like
Maybe handing out a full set to your students to take home,
Printing on cardstock and attaching to a lollipop, or even
Just using them to add to Valentine’s day cards and crafts.
(we’ve even got a few more printables to help with that)

But I would suggest that you actively use them
to help children commit these verses to memory.

Then as a child successfully recites each verse,
you give them the corresponding heart to put into their pocket.

(Thus, the verses in the pocket represent the verses they have hidden in their heart)

Maybe you do one or two each year…maybe the entire set…
Maybe you just keep this as a special teaching tool you pull out every Valentine’s Day.

Whatever you do with them don’t use them as a
“Hey! Look another thing I started but never finished” tool.

You know that guilt inducing tool we homeschool mom’s are so familiar with

Just have fun with it!
And if it overwhelms you Pin it and we’ll know that you’re “virtually doing it”

Little Boys & Fabric

April 15, 2009 By Valerie Mcclintick 6 Comments

Since I’ve got a million sewing projects on my plate, I decided to chip away at them by making my little boy some summer shorts.

(I’d show you a photo of my sewing station, but I’m too embarassed at all the little piles of unused fabric, sitting there waiting for their time to shine)

And since big Sissy got to pick out her fabric for her Easter Dress, Bubba had his mind made up that he was going to be the one to choose his favorite fabrics for his little pants.

(I know right, what was I thinking letting a 3 year old do the picking and choosing….

Especially since I’m the one who has to admit that I dressed him that way!

LOL, but his choices weren’t too off the wall for his little toddler personality:

This one reminded me of his need to jump around the house…..

This one brought up memories of his need for adventures…….

And this one? Well, this just reminds me of his father…….

Seriously, I think my husband has a pair just like these in his drawer!

You know You’re Pregnant When…..

April 7, 2009 By Valerie Mcclintick 2 Comments

…You can finish off this entire Tostada salad (shell and all) and not even worry about continuing on to the chips and salsa bar.

Seriously, this has been my ultimate “craving” this time around, I just can’t get enough of these, or sour cream for that matter. (Lately, I’ve been know to take scoops of sour cream and just eat it plain……straight out of the container)

Shhh, don’t tell anyone

Anyway, it was such a beautiful day in Oregon, that we spent our school day outside, picnicking for dinner and letting the kids run wild in the backyard.

It was fantastic.

I even got to work on this neat little needle felting project I’ve been putting off. Have you ever heard of needle felting? This is something new to me, but lately I’ve seen all the neat videos and kits at the craft store, so I finally decided to pick one up and figure it out for myself.

I must say that I’m absolutely HOOKED! This project took me like 30 minutes, and it was small enough to keep next to me while the kids were playing outside. I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do with it yet, but the possibilities for this type of craft are endless, and I’m glad I finally took an afternoon to learn how to do it! (I’m actually thinking of using it for part of These adorable homemade Easter Baskets, I’ve been dying to make)

And for those of you who are wondering just what exactly this needle felting is all about, check out the video below, that is exactly how I made mine. I can’t wait to experiment with my own patterns…..

Oh, a door has been opened!

Sew much Fun….

March 27, 2009 By Valerie Mcclintick 1 Comment

I’ve been busy! I put all that beautiful blue fabric to good use this week, and turned it into the most adorable Easter dress I’ve ever seen made. Here are some photos.

Front Smock of dress, including the matching purse…..
…..Trrrrust me! Sissy is flippin’ over the purse, she is so proud!

Back view, there is a tie in the back which is AMAZING, b/c Sissy is so stick thin, every dress I make for her, she floats in. I’ve yet to figure out how to customize patterns, so until then I’ll be using this little trick quite often!

Full size view. I know, look at how wrinkled it is….that’s because she just spent hours dancing through the living room showing it off, and I just don’t have the energy tonight to iron it again.

And of course, since I’ve wraped that project up, I’ve started another…..

When I was a little girl, I LOVED……I mean L – O – V – E – D, anything Strawberry Shortcake! (You know, how she looked before her creators decided they needed to straighten her hair, and put her on the Barbie diet.) She was just adorable the way she was in the 80’s….like me:

Okay, that’s not really me. But that kid is pretty cute isn’t she. All my baby photos are stacked away, up high, out of my immediate grasp……..so rather then teeter my pregnant belly atop of a chair trying to reach them, I’m just going to have to wait till Hubby can get to them.

I promise I’ll post a cute baby photo of the real me soon. That is if I can find one in which I’m not wearing corduroys, or those fantastic neon spandex we all loved.

Anyway, Joann’s had an amazing sale on Simplicity patterns a few weeks ago and it was the perfect time to stock up on fabric too!

I was able to pick us this adorable strawberry print for 75 cents a yard (There was a greese stain in the corner so the lady took half off the already discounted price….SCORE!) and Then I found this beautiful red polka dot fabric in the $1.99 a yard bin.

So as you can see I’ll be making a very sweet article of clothing for my little girl…I’m thinking a layered tier skirt with a matching purse……

Have you seen the amazing patterns at YouCanMakeThis.com? I’m thinking I need to grab a bottle of root beer and head over there tonight!

Springy Fabrics

March 14, 2009 By Valerie Mcclintick 6 Comments

I’ve been shopping at the fabric store again……Here are my recent choices for some upcoming projects.

The blues I’m going to use for my daughters Birthday/Easter Dress, I’ve picked out the most adorable little pattern from Simplicity and I can’t wait to get started! There’s even a matching purse that she can carry in on Easter Sunday!

I can’t quite decide what I’m going to do with the green and the owls….it’s just so cute I’m not even sure I want to cut it up. (Isn’t that dangerous when you purchase fabric with no pattern in mind…..) Maybe I can just drape it over the back of my chair or something? I just know there is the perfect pattern out there somewhere, just begging to be made………a diaper bag perhaps?
