Christmas Tree Art

February 18, 2021 By Crafty Team Leave a Comment

Christmas Trees remind us of the best time of the year, so let’s get the kids excited about the upcoming season! We’ve got a wonderful DIY Christmas Tree Art project your kids will love. Our Winter Tree Art Project is designed using cubism art. It’s gorgeous, surprisingly easy to make, and an awesome keepsake for loved ones.

Wondering what cubism art is? You’ll find out what cubism art is and where cubism art originated.

This is a fantastic Christmas Art project for any age and ability. It’s also a fun way to get others together around the holiday table. Yes, there are a ton of amazing Christmas Tree Crafts out there, but this holiday craft is guaranteed to be creative, unique, and special. With just a few materials, your child will have colorful DIY Holiday Tree Art in just a few minutes.

CHRISTMAS TREE ART MATERIALS

  • Christmas Tree Template
  • Pastel Crayons
  • Q-Tips
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Black Cardstock or Construction Paper

HOLIDAY TREE ART INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Print our free Christmas Tree Art Template on cardstock paper.
  2. Using a ruler, draw several diagonal lines across the template. Starting at the base of the Christmas Tree, draw a diagonal line with a pencil. Then, closer to the top, draw another diagonal line at the opposite angle. Continue this pattern until you have a healthy balance of lines (about 10 – 12) with plenty of room to color. See the video above for visual ideas.

3. Using a fall array of colors, outline each cube using the oil-based pastel crayons. Make sure to leave the middle area empty. Using a Q-Tip, blend in the remaining white space for a brushed appearance. Starting at the top of the page using an orange pastel color. Follow the next cube with a complementary color like yellow. Using a deep red color, surround the yellow colors as well. Follow this pattern until all cubes surrounding the tree are filled in with a complementary color.

4. Fill in the star using the yellow pastel hue.

5. Begin coloring in the tree’s pattern. To make the tree pop, continue to use complementary colors such as dark and light blues and greens for contrast. Follow the same pattern using the pastels to outline the cubes, wrapping up with the q-tips to blend the pastel color.

6. Once you are finished with the Christmas Tree Cubism Art Project, glue your beautiful masterpiece onto black cardstock and frame or give it away as a Christmas Gift. The possibilities are endless when it comes to sharing your gorgeous art creation.

Christmas Tree Craft

December 21, 2020 By Crafty Team Leave a Comment

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree, how lovely are they branches! Christmas is such a wonderful time to get the kids excited. We’ve got a wonderful DIY Christmas Tree Craft idea your kids will love. Our Christmas Tree Art Project is creative, easy to make, and a gorgeous keepsake for loved ones. You could even shrink down the size of the template to fit a Christmas Card to send to friends and family. This is a fantastic project for multiple ages and abilities and a fun way to get family and friends together around the holiday table. However you create, you’ll want to display your child’s Christmas Tree artwork year after year.

While there are a ton of fun Christmas Tree Crafts out there, this holiday craft is unique and special. With just a few materials, your child will have a beautiful and colorful Christmas tree in just a few minutes. Best of all, every tree turns into a unique masterpiece that children are excited to share.

Christmas Tree Craft Materials

  • Christmas Tree Template
  • Bleeding Tissue Paper (different than normal tissue paper)
  • Clear Elmers Glue
  • White Cardstock

Holiday Tree Craft Instructions

  1. Print our free Christmas Tree Craft Template on cardstock paper. We’ll be getting the paper wet, so you’ll want a thicker paper if possible. Turn over the template so that you are creating on the back side.

2. Use water to wet the paper a bit, then add the bleeding tissue paper circles in an overlapping fashion. You’ll want to think about your color choices so that you have colors blending into different hues, or even complementary colors to help the project pop. You can see in the photo above that warm colors were used on the area of the star, and then it transitions into cooler colors for the tree.

3. Add water over the top of the circles to ensure they are bleeding the colors onto the paper. However, be careful not to add too much water or you’ll get a “muted” look as the colors will be washed out a bit. Just enough water to transfer. You can play around with this to see on a scrap paper.

4. Once you have the outline filled with tissue paper, set the project aside to dry. You can use a blowdryer set to “low” to speed things up if you are short on time.

5. When dry, shake or peel off the tissue paper. You’ll see that once the tissue paper is removed, the color still remains. Flip your project back over so you can see the Christmas tree outline.

6. Cut on the black lines so that your tree is in 6 different pieces.

7. Choose a piece of construction paper with a dark color as your background. Begin laying out each element of the Christmas Tree in respective order, beginning with the star. Leave space in between each set of branches so that the background can show through.

8. Glue all pieces in sequential order as shown above.

9. Your Crafty Classroom Christmas Tree Craft is complete!

Frame your project to ensure it lasts year after year! What a fun Christmas decoration to pull out each winter. Scale this project down a bit to create a set of unique Christmas cards from the kiddos. Simply set your printer to print multiple pages per sheet and you’ll have a template just right for holiday cards. Your kiddos can create four at a time!

Christmas Cards From the Kids!

December 21, 2019 By Valerie Mcclintick 1 Comment

Finding Christmas Cards that your kids can make can be difficult. Today, we’ve created a set of holiday cards that will help your little ones add a personalized touch this Christmas. This set includes Christmas Cards, as well as Thank You cards each with a holiday theme. Each card prints on a single sheet of paper and can be folded into shape.

When children are younger, it can be hard to find ways for them to write their own Thank You cards. For reluctant writers, even the thought of filling in the blank page can be daunting. We’ve created a free printable Thank You Card Word Bank that will provide your kiddos with a list of common words they might use when writing a thank you card.

Thank You Cards From Kids

Each card can be folded into shape by following the guidelines. Inside each card, you’ll find that there are helpful writing lines to help your students keep their writing tidy. Students can use the word bank to craft their thank you message.

Christmas Coloring Countdown Printable

December 12, 2019 By Valerie Mcclintick 2 Comments

Last Minute Christmas Countdown

Did you forget to do a Pinterest worthy Advent Calendar this year?  Don’t worry, I’m right there with you. I blame Thanksgiving. It was just too close to Christmas this year, wasn’t it?  I mean, I ordered a bunch of tiny treats to put in my wooden advent calendar but I just never got the Christmas Rubbermaid out of the garage in time…and here we are half way through December.

Well, look. Today I have a simple, no-excuses Christmas countdown calendar you can print up for your kiddo.  There are not mini-chocolates or extra things required. Just print it up, make a few cuts, and you’ll have yourself a working countdown calendar that your little one will look forward to for the rest of the month.  And hey…..just tell them they get to color in the first 12 days as a special 12-days of Christmas bonus.

Free Printable Christmas Countdown

Let’s face it….there is just something so FUN about counting down to Christmas Day! Children LOVE to wake up and mark another day off the calendar. You might already have a felt advent calendar, or even a wooden advent calendar, but there is something extra fun and unique about creating your own countdown keepsake.

Simple Christmas Countdown Calendar

I’ve seen quite a few Christmas countdown calendars over the years, and while they are super-cute, sometimes they are just too much work to set up! Especially when Thanksgiving ends up really close to Christmas, there just isn’t enough time to transition from one holiday to the next. Well, this Christmas Countdown Coloring project solves that problem as it couldn’t be simpler.

To set up this countdown calendar, all you need to do is print out the two pages; the cover sheet that includes the numbered windows, and the background sheet that contains the pictures. Use scissors, or an Exacto knife to cut the windows on three sides as shown in the photos, then glue the cover sheet over the sheet with all the pictures.

Each morning, when you child wakes up, have them open another window and color in the Christmas picture! Every day they’ll be greeted with a new festive holiday character to color in. By the time Christmas comes around, you’ll have a special keepsake of their hard work you can keep for years to come! If you have nieces and nephews, or if you are sponsoring a child overseas, this is a lightweight advent calendar you can send along for not very much in postage.

Christmas Coloring Countdown

Print this free countdown to Christmas calendar on cardstock for best results. If you have colored paper for the the numbers that would add some holiday cheer!

5 Last-Minute Advent Calendar Ideas

December 6, 2019 By Valerie Mcclintick Leave a Comment

Counting down the days to Christmas is exciting. An advent calendar helps mark the days and keeps the anticipation building. These calendars can be elaborate or very simple. Here are some simple yet super fun Advent calendar ideas for your busy schedule this year.

Counting on Paper Chains

Looking for some easy Christmas advent calendar ideas for kids? This is the simplest Advent countdown option. Paper chains have a long Christmas tradition. They can be hung on trees, draped over mantles, and taped to the wall. This paper chain gets smaller as Christmas day gets closer.

  1. Cut 25 strips of colored paper.
  2. Using glue, form the first strip into a circle.
  3. Loop the second paper strip through the first circle and glue.
  4. Continue this until all the papers are used and you have a chain of 25 links.
  5. Each day leading to Christmas, remove one link until they are all gone.
  6. An additional option is to include a Bible verse in each loop to keep your family focused on the reason for the season.

Christmas Advent Calendar Ideas

Getting a treat each day is another way to add to your advent calendar filler ideas collection. There are so many versions of this Advent calendar, however, a very easy and economical one begins with 25 toilet paper rolls.

  1. Collect all the rolls and make sure all white paper is removed.
  2. Arrange the tubes vertically, standing on end.
  3. Choose a shape for your calendar, this could be a tree, circle, or star. Use your imagination.
  4. With a hot glue gun, attach each of the tubes to form your desired shape. Make sure to run glue down the entire side of each tube. This will ensure stability.
  5. Around the edge of the shape, you can paint, cover it with ribbon, or leave it plain.
  6. Pipe glue around the edge of the shape on the bottom side and attach it to a piece of poster board. Trim the poster board around the shape. This gives backing to your calendar.
  7. Fill each tube with a treat, Bible verse, or small toy.
  8. Glue circles of paper over each opening.
  9. Write numbers 1 through 25 on the paper coverings.
  10. Open one tube per day to find what is inside.

Christmas Advent Tree of Packages

Why not have an Advent tree? You’ll love this fabulous advent calendar gift idea. Using small gift bags or fabric tied in sacks, hang 25 small gift packages on a miniature Christmas tree. Make sure to draw a number on each package. Then open a small gift every day until Christmas. You can have a theme for these packages, such as Legos or candy. You could also include one piece of the nativity each day. Start with Mary and Joseph, and lead up to baby Jesus on Christmas.

Sharing the Story of Christmas

Another fun activity is a Christmas themed storytime. Wrap up 25 books in bright wrapping paper and place them in a basket or under the tree. Each night unwrap and read another story. These can be Christian themed books or a blend of simply fun Christmas books along with Bible classics. It is a wonderful way to mark the days and get in some precious family time during a very busy season.

Where to Find Premade Advent Calendars

Christmas Advent calendars are easy to find in a variety of places. Chocolate filled ones are available in more grocery stores leading up to Christmas. Many small toy companies, including Lego and Crayola, sell calendars that are cardboard boxes with individual doors. Each compartment has a new toy. You can also find wooden calendars in all shapes and sizes that can be filled over and over again on Etsy or Amazon.

Be sure to check out the Names of Jesus Printable Ornaments that are a perfect way to mark each day of Advent or decorate your Advent tree.

DIY Wooden Advent Calendar:

Now, this is NOT a last-minute project, but if you’re looking for a fun way to create some memories and finish with a lasting keepsake, be sure to check out our DIY Wooden Advent Tutorial!

Nativity Art Project for Kids

December 6, 2017 By Valerie Mcclintick 1 Comment

Christmas is right around the corner (is it December already?) and today I’ve got a brand new art tutorial for children.  This project can be done by students of any age (with adult help) but it is recommended for children 8-12 years old.   The best part of this project is that it requires very little materials and the results are stunning!

Materials:

  • Chalk Pastels
  • Black Paint
  • Glue
  • Black Construction Paper

Step 1: Make Black Glue

Black glue is made simply by pouring black paint into your glue bottle.  I emptied our glue bottle just a bit then filled it up with paint.  Shake it around quite a bit to mix it in.

Step 2: Draw Your Nativity Scene

Using your black glue, draw a nativity scene.  Start with the basic outline of the stable.  Put a star on top, then draw rays coming from the star.  Make the baby Jesus in the middle of the stable then create Mary and Joseph.  If you are doing this project with very young students consider making this glue outline before hand, or doing something more simple like a Christmas Star.

Set aside to dry for a couple of hours.

Step 3: Color the Star

Using the chalk pastels color the star yellow, and each one of the rays a different color.  Use your finger to help the chalk get into the cracks.

Step 4: Illuminating the Stable

Color the majority of the stable white with just a line of blue around the inside edge.  Leave room near the bottom to draw the ground.

Step 5: Blend, Blend, Blend

Use a clean finger, and make small circular motions to blend the blue into the white as shown.

Step 6: Golden Glow

Using a golden yellow, color and blend to make hay at the bottom of the stable.   Illuminate the manger to show the Baby Jesus.  Blend with your finger to putt the color outwards.

All Done!

Hang your stunning Chalk Pastel Nativity Scene where you can enjoy it all year long!

Printable Christmas Labels

December 21, 2013 By Valerie Mcclintick Leave a Comment

Christmas is right around the corner so here are some last minute printables!

NativityLabelsPin

Nativity  Christmas Labels.

These labels are so beautiful, and best of allthey each focus on a piece of the Christmas Story.  From Mary’s Good News, to the Visit of the Maji, these labels will enhance your Christmas presents while reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas.

20131221_100136

We printed ours on Avery Shipping Labels (8 1/2 x 11)

(Product ID# 8165)

20131221_100648

Then after we cut them out we could easily peel off the backing

And stick them on a gift.

20131221_101205(You could easily print these on regular paper and use a glue stick as well)

20131221_101726

I also made a set without the “to” and “from” to be used as Christmas Tags.  Tie the tags on with a string and write that information on the back.

Blank Nativity Christmas Labels

20131221_101516

I even thought these would make beautiful ornaments if you added glitter to them Like we did with our Christmas Card Craft.

Either way, with these labels you’re sure to encourage people to think about the true meaning of Christmas.

Christmas Card Crafts for Kids

December 9, 2013 By Valerie Mcclintick Leave a Comment

20131117_200929

This is a simple and easy Chrsitmas Card project for kids.

In fact, this come from my own childhood.

My best friends Grandmother would save her Christmas Cards from the previous year,

and we’d decorate them with glitter and repourpose them as ornaments and gift tags.

I thought that would be the perfect project to do with my own kiddos this year.

But, of course that all takes planning, and saving the cards from last year.

I didn’t do that.

ChristmasCards2

Instead, I decided to print up a set of pictures that would be perfect for adding glitter to.

Then we can make our own cards and ornaments together.

And I just know that you’re going to love this project with your own kiddos,

so we’re offering our Subscribers these free Christmas Card download.

Stained Glass Nativity Craft

December 4, 2013 By Valerie Mcclintick 3 Comments

StaineGlassNativity

Christmas always comes faster then I’m prepared for.

I remember it was even faster when I had lesson plans to prepare for.

This is a quick and easy craft that will give you beautiful results.

(You might remember that we’ve used this technique on our Stained Glass Easter Craft)

NativityStainedGlass

Download: Nativity

So here’s the deal.

You can either print that page on vellum paper and color it in with markers

-or- a more budget friendly and FUN way is to print it on regular paper and then do the following:

20131117_074422

Color your paper with marker.  Encourage children to leave areas of white or to use their yellow pen to highlight the tops of each section.

20131117_074455

When your page is colored, flip it over and apply oil to the back.  I used a canola oil and a paper towel to rub it in.  You’ll instantly see the oil soaking in.  Oil the entire page.

20131117_074705

Let dry, then Hang up in a sunny window.  You can see in my image the oiled area lets the light through.  You can even get creative with what areas you oil and don’t oil for a different effect (see that little oil spot near the bottom of the page)

I think a window full of these would be beautiful in a classroom window!

Be sure you subscribe for exclusive printables, tips and resources.

(I’ve already got the Donkey tutorial up if you want to peek)
