Valentine’s Day Art Project for Kids

February 8, 2021 By Crafty Team 2 Comments

Your kids are going to absolutely love this Valentine’s Day Art Project. Valentine’s Day is also a great time to introduce heart shapes to your little ones as well. With just a few simple steps, you could make this a keepsake, card or framed gift for a loved one.

If you have older children, it’s a great craft project for multiple ages. While this craft may look difficult, it’s simple with our step by step instructions and easy to follow video tutorial. However you decide to showcase your beautiful work of art, it’s memories will last a lifetime.

Valentine’s Day Craft Matericals

While there are a ton of fun Valentine’s Day Crafts out there, this holiday craft is creative, crafty, and clever. In just a few minutes with just a few materials, your child will have a gorgeous masterpiece for display.

  • Heart Shape Craft Template
  • Bleeding Tissue Paper (different than normal tissue paper)
  • Elmers Glue
  • Scissors
  • White Cardstock
  • Black Construction Paper
  • Container with water
  • Paintbrush

3D Heart Art Project for Kids

  1. Print our free Heart Shape Craft Template on white cardstock paper. The paper will get fairly wet, so you’ll want thick paper if possible. Turn over the template so that you are creating it on the backside of the paper.

2. Use water to wet the paper a bit, then add the bleeding tissue paper circles in an overlapping fashion. Think about color choices placed together so that you have colors blending into different complementary colors to help the artwork pop. Check out the first photo above noting the matching color tones.

3. Add water over the top of the circles to confirm they are bleeding the colors onto the paper. Be careful with how much water you are adding — the colors may get washed out a bit or look fuzzy. Use just enough water to transfer. If you’d like to practice, first, try it on scrap paper for a test “run” (pun intended).

4. Once you have the outline filled with tissue paper, set the project aside to dry. To speed up the drying process, grab a blowdryer and set it to “low”.

5. When dry, shake or peel off the tissue paper. Once the tissue paper is removed, the color looks beautiful. Flip your project back over so you can see your gorgeous heart shape outline.

6. Cut out all of the shapes following the black lines so that your heart and L-O-V-E letters are in several pieces. Stay organized as you cut, as you’ll be reassembling the pattern next.

7. It’s time to choose a dark piece of construction paper as your background. Begin laying out each element of the Heart and Letters in their respective order following the picture’s pattern. HINT: Leave space in between each heart pattern — it will help make your 3D Heart Shape POP!

8. Glue all pieces in sequential order as shown above.

That’s it — only 8 simple steps for a gorgeous 3-D Heart Shaped Craft! Now, don’t forget to frame your project to ensure it lasts a lifetime! What a fun Val’s Day decoration to pull out each February season.

If you’d like to scale down this project and create a set of unique Valentine’s Day cards, it’s really simple to do. Just set your printer to print multiple pages per sheet — do a search on “how to print multiple pages per sheet for …” with printer name if you’re unsure. Once you set it up, you’ll have a template that’s perfect for cards of any holiday or occasion.

Love Bug Valentine’s Day Printables

I don’t know about you guys, but Valentine’s Day is much anticipated holiday at our house. I’m pretty sure it should be renamed as the “Winters Almost Over” holiday, as all the chocolate and candy hearts sure feel like a well-earned reward for making it through another Homeschool Winter.

There is just something about stir-crazy boys that makes we want to add an extra bag of chocolate hearts to my shopping cart, and stash them away in a high cupboard somewhere before the kids see them.

I love Valentine’s Day candy so much, that over the years, I’ve created a few printables that can be used alongsidee Valentine’s Day Candy; like this Conversation Hearts Graphing Activity, or these John 3:16 Valentine Cards.

Today, however, I resisted the urge to create another excuse to add more candy to my cupboards, and created this set of Love Bug printables instead. These little critters are so cute, you won’t even miss the chocolate.

First, I’ve added a super fun Love Bug Shape Activity Page.
Students follow the guide to color each shape as directed, then give each of the love bugs some creepy, crawly feet. This is a great page for students who are working on some of those more difficult shapes as I’ve included 15 different shaped bugs.

Second, for students working on cutting skills, I’ve made a set of six different Valentine Love Bugs for them to cut out. Each heart features a different critter, with a Punny Valentine message. These are great for students who want to make their own Valentine’s Day Cards.

And if you want, not saying you have to, but you could…..if Valentine’s Day Candy were to go on sale, and you were at the store anyway….you might add a little chocolate heart or a strawberry blow-pop to the back of these with a little tape or something.

To continue building fine motor skills in February, I definitely recommend that you check out our February Fine Motor Pack. It’s PACKED with over 50 activity pages and skills sheets to build small motor muscles.

Valentine’s Day Card Craft

January 26, 2012 By Valerie Mcclintick 8 Comments

Don’t you just LOVE Pinterest?

I love that you can follow people and see THEIR pins,
and then “repin” it to your own boards.

A virtual “To-Do” cork board of that never runs out of space!

Anyway, this week I saw these adorable Secret Valentines,
and I was inspired to make our own version:

These would be super simple for even very young children to make.

First print up the template and have them color in the cross with a white crayon.

Just to see how it worked, I did one with crayon and one with oil pastel

Then you just make stripes across your paper.
All the while using language like “long strokes” “blending” “overlapping”
(You get the picture right?)

Fill up those hearts till their full of color!
(idea: Maybe use the salvation colors too)

Cut and trim away the extra paper.
Have children pastes these to a card or write a message or bible verse on the back. I’m sure these would look wonderful glued to those little paper heart doilies you can get at the Dollar Store!

If you want to make your own, I’ve posted the template on our sister site ChristianPreschoolPrintables.com. There is a BW & Color version.

Valentine Trees…or Spring Trees…

February 14, 2010 By Valerie Mcclintick 2 Comments

IMG_0608

Okay, so I’m not really sure what category these little guys are going to fall under, because we made them with rose petals in the shape of hearts…and they look like Spring trees, but Valentine’s Day is not exactly in Spring per-se’ …..so for now we’re just calling them Valentine Trees.

Whatever.

They’re really easy, and they are like a keepsake because you can use them with your children’s handprints…..(Imagine a full bulletin board of these!) I got the Rose Petals at the Dollar Tree.

Here’s the Scoop:

And in other “Lovey News”

IMG_0613

there is a little girl out there who will be recieving 10 inches of the most beautiful brown hair I’ve ever seen (Okay I’m partial).
Sissy (6) eventually convinced me to let her cut her hair to chin length, and while I’m partial to long hair on little girls, It was the “No-Tangles” argument that finally won me over and sealed the deal. (Serious, I’m not the only one that gets screamed at during hair brushing time am I?)
