This little guy sure has an expression doesn’t he?
He looks a bit Twitterpaited if you ask me. (That term from Bambi might have a whole new meaning now that Twitter is so popular!)
The belly of this little guy provides some white space for children to write in key facts or even some poetry about owls!

Okay, I know that I could have shelled out the $8 bucks and got the traditional Sparky Bag, but I needed an excuse to use my fabric markers……And I think it turned out pretty cute.
Of course, Bubba wanted a Cubbie bag too.

So much so that on the spur of the moment we decided to make a mural mosaic of one of them.
We got to work punching circles…
(I am soooo glad I bought that Martha Stewart Circle Punch.)
Trust me you don’t want to be cutting all these circles out by hand.
Plus the kids love to slam down the puncher and watch the circles fly. Good Fun.
And at the end of a 20 sheets of paper, 4 glue-sticks and eating all our meals in the living room, our Owl mural was complete:
We hung him up in the living room, with a view of the kitchen “so he can catch any mice that come in for snacks”
Mice? I don’t think it’s the mice coming in and slurping down all the whip cream for breakfast honey…….

I got the pattern from this site here.
And this is how I did it.
First I cut out all my shapes:
Then I pinned them all together on a piece of green fabric:
I used a Zig-Zag stitch to go around all the edges:
I did all except for the wings, leaving them open:
Then I put in some crinkly wipes packaging for a little noise maker. I stuffed it in the sewed it up:
Then I cut around the owl, leaving about 1/2 inch for the seam allowance:
Next I traced around the brown fabric that I wanted for the back of the owl:
Since I wanted a few ribbon taggies on the owl, I cut them from ribbon, and pinned them to the owl like in the photo:
Finally I put right sides of the owl and the backing together, sewed all the way around and left a hole for turning it right side out:
I stuffed him up a bit, then sewed him closed.
I like how he turned out, he looks a little “Girly” for Monkey, but overall I’m pretty happy!

OWL CRAFTS!
Owls are just adorable aren’t they?
We started by snagging a bunch of Owl books from the library. Right off the bat, I saw that this book called, “Owls” by Gail Gibbons was a winner! There is so much information in the book that we spent a long time on each page reading and learning about the different types of owls, what makes owls unique, and even learning more detailed facts about barn owls.
So anyway, to kick things off we started with these little pinecone owls. I let the children pick one of the owls they would like to try and make (mines a Great Horned Owl…can you tell?). Then I had them look at the colors and sizes and shapes to see how they could copy it with the supplies we had. Needless to say, they were a HUGE hit at our house, especially with Bubba (4) who made sure that his “Great Gray” owls wings were extended in flight so he could catch the mice.
We even made little nests out of clay pots and moss, so our owls would have a place to come in and land.

Oh, you guys are simply brilliant! I was hoping to have you fooled with the photo of the iPod, but you dear readers were not falling for my trickery!
Yes, they are baby shoes….totally stylin’ fabric baby shoes from a pattern I snagged over at Maked.ca
However I did make a few changes since I no longer have a newborn.
I made them to fit my 6 month old little guy, simply by expanding the pattern out on all sides about 1/3 of an inch, and an extra bit around the heel, and I also added about 1 inch in elastic.
(my little guy has fat wide short feet in case your wondering)
I loved this pattern because it is reversible, and I got to use different fabrics and colors for the shoes.
Another change I made, was that I top-stitched with a decorative stitch around the edge.
Personally, I like the look of this better, but if you do this be aware that your reversible side wont lay as flat (see left shoe in the photo)
Look, they’re even more adorable when they’re on baby feet!
These were SOOOOOO easy to make, like 10 minutes per shoe, and the pattern is quite simple to follow. I’ll be making these as a staple new baby gift for sure!
