FreedomVerseCardPinI’ve gotten a little behind and I didn’t have time to post this to our main website, but I figured I’d share it here on the blog anyway!

This is a set of four different Freedom bible verse cards for children.  Each verse is written on a star shape and would be perfect to use during your Fourth of July crafts or as a take home card for children.

Geology Crafts

March 26, 2011 By Valerie Mcclintick 1 Comment

I know you’re just dying to know what we made
with all this beautiful playdough!

I meant to post this sooner so as not to make you
wait in anticipation so long!

A few weeks back we learned about the layers of the earth
and this clay made it possible for us to make our own model!

Didn’t it turn out wonderful?

As part of our study we also made an erupting volcano:

And then later on we visited our local Rock Museum
where we snagged these exciting beauties,
and took the hammer to them…here’s how it all went down:

The kiddos were really excited to find the crystals within,
and have been coveting them ever since!

(If you want to break your own, try this kit from GeoCentral)

I posted some quick tutorials on the main site,
under our Geology Crafts section!

And Stay Tuned for some fun Geography Activities
as we revisit the Continents & Oceans next month!

Owl Pellet Activity

February 19, 2010 By Valerie Mcclintick 3 Comments

owl pellet dissection craft

How can we learn about owls without dissecting some Owl puke?

I know right….we’d be kicked out of the Homeschool Co-op if we tried to pull a stunt like that!

(snicker)

owlpellet

Actually, we didn’t dissect “real” owl puke, we used the synthetic stuff.

We learned just as much about the dietary needs of owls, and I didn’t have to scream at my children for rubbing their eyes while dissecting.

Though I did startle the boy when I noticed him putting the bird beak in his mouth…..totally freaky

(Don’t worry…..I made him puke it up……like an owl…….there is no need to call CPS)

owl pellet experiment notes

Anyway, I made a printable book to go along with the Owl Pellet Dissection, and it’s now up on the site with photo instructions for how to dissect your own owl pellet.

(Thrilling stuff isn’t it)

Trust me, the kids love it.
