Discussion
These adorable little owls are not only cute,
they are quite easy to make.  My four-year
old son was quite instrumental in making
this little guy with his wings spread..."So he
can fly fast Mommy!"  I owe all the
creativity to him!

  • Pine Cone
  • Cotton Balls (6+)
  • Feathers
  • Glue
  • Toothpick
  • Small piece of Orange Foam for beak
  • Wiggle eyes or buttons for eyes.
  • Learn all about the different varieties of
owls.  Choose one or two to focus on
    for your owl craft.
  • Using a photo of the owl as a
reference, look and talk about the
    similarities and differences between the
    owls....color, size, shape. ect, and
    choose your pinecones and feathers
    accordingly.
Step 1
Pull apart a couple of cotton balls, and
using your toothpick stuff the cotton between
the empty spaces in the pine cone.
(
ignore the feathers...we were playing
around)
Step 2
Take two full cottonballs and stuff or glue
them where you want your owls head.  (see
how your pinecone sits and choose the best
spot.)
Step 3
You want your two cottonballs to look
like the owls facial disks...round or
heartshaped depending on the type.
Step 8
Do the same for the other wing.
(Like our feathers?  We got them at
Michaels' Craft Store)
Step 7
Choose a feather for the wings.  Wrap the
wing around the back of the body and
down the side.  Glue if necessary.
Step 9
If you're making a little Horned Owl,
choose some smaller feather for the facial
disks.
Step 10
Owls need nests don't they?  Get an old
clay pot and stuff it with some moss or
whatever extra you can find.
Step 11
Let the moss overflow over the top of the clay
pot....it just looks more like a nest this way
doesn't it!
Step 4
Choose some eyes for your owl.  We used
wiggle eyes...it's kooky to use a big and a
small one.
Step 5
Cut a small triangle from orange foam and
glue on your owls beak..
All Done!
Show your little owl his new home and
let him nestle in.
Optional Wings

they need big wings out!"
Step 6
See...no feathers on the head now....
Silly kids  :)
