Giveaway: Pop for Addition and Subtraction!

UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed!

We have a winner!!

Comment #188 was:

Last month we were contacted by Learning Resources to review one of their newest products

How Exciting!
We actually use many different Learning Resources products already,
so I was pretty excited to have a NEW item in our collection!
And I even got to choose which one!
Can you guess what I picked?
(Ya’ll know about my math fact troubles lately right?)

I chose a game called, “POP for Addition and Subtraction”
The suggested age level for this game is 6-8
and it retails for $9.99

It’s cute, It’s colorful,
and it’s helping my kiddos to learn (and relearn) those evasive math facts.

Like I mentioned last week,
we are hitting the math facts pretty hard around here.

So I thought it would be nice to change it up with a math fact game,
and seriously, a little friendly competition goes a long ways around here.

Not to mention that it’s fun to play!
Here’s the deal:

The game includes a spinner and an assortment of math fact gumballs.

On each turn, your child spins the spinner

Then draws the appropriate amount of gumballs from the “gumball machine” (i.e. box)

In order to keep the gumballs children have to say the answer to the math fact printed on the gumball.

If they get the answer correct, they keep the gumball in their pile.
If they don’t get it correct, the gumball goes back into the box.

If they draw a “POP” gumball, all of their accumulated math facts go back into the box.
(the POP gumball is now out of play).

The game continues until all gumballs have been collected.
They are then counted and a winner is declared.

What I like:
The quality of the game is reflected in the price.
The box, and playing pieces are thick and sturdy,
and they are sure to stand up to years of classroom use.

Everything is stored in the box, making it simple to store and easy to use.
(it would totally fit in a stocking if you’re looking for ways to stretch that homeschool budget!)

There are two levels of game play and the directions for both are printed on the back of the box
(how thoughtful is that

With 90 gumballs, this game is for any number of players.
You can play this game at home with one child or use it in your classroom.

Classroom Idea: Sometimes it’s fun to have an end of the day activity or ritual in your classroom….you know like a little fun treat children can look forward to.
I think it would be super cute for children to choose a gumball fact to solve on their way out and exchange it for a small treat, or sticker for their charts. You could even make the “POP” gumballs stand for something special. It would encourage children to be working on those math facts at home to show what they’ve learned each day.

I’m sure YOU can think of creative ways to use this game too!

Learning Resources is offering you the opportunity to WIN your own
POP for Addition and Subtraction game!

Heritage History Giveaway!

First Winner was comment #160: Ann R. who said, “My girls enjoy the Little House books. My son enjoys books about knights and the Lord of the Rings.”

Second Winner was comment #67: Melody Lunsford who said, “Christian Europe and British Middle Ages would go along with our Mystery of History Vol. 2 material. Thank You for having a giveaway!”

Congratulation to both of our winners!

Don’t worry if you didn’t win, you can still take advantage of the
FREE Curriculum CD Offer below, but do note that it only goes through the end of October.

It’s time for another fantastic giveaway from our sponsors!

But First, Write Down This Code!

It will get you a Free Curriculum CD from Heritage History.
You can read about the offer here

Now, on to the giveaway…

When I first learned of Heritage History,
I was a bit confused as to what products they offered,
and what would be the best fit for our family.

So I wanted to take a second to show you the different ways
Heritage History can become a part of your daily learning:

1. Read pre-1923 books online for FREE.

You can choose from hundreds of living books, and search by author, genre, title, and even civilization. If that weren’t enough, they have color coded them by reading ability.
Bookmark or Pin this page, you’ll love it.

For those of you interested, you can read the Worldview
Heritage History uses to selected each title.

2.Order single E-books based on your current studies.

The benefits of ordering a book can make all the difference in how you access the resources.
When you order an e-book you receive a PDF version and two different e-book versions.
This allows you to print multiple copies to use in your classroom,
and to save the book to your personal computer or tablet. Also the formatting of a purchased book
has been handled with detail. The captions, tables and other parts of the book have been preserved.
You can download a FREE e-book here to see the difference!
(instructions for loading it to your tablet can be found here)

3. Order a Collection of e-books surrounding a theme or topic:

history curriculum

Heritage History offers TWO different types of CD Collections:
Classical Libraries
Classical Curriculum

These collections of e-books have been specifically chosen to help ease the burden for homeschooling families. With these selections, you can easily provide your children with living books that compliment your current studies.

As with the single e-books, each CD comes with a PDF and two e-book versions of each title.
There are on average about 50 different titles for each collection,
and the price of the CD’s range from $19.99 to $24.99

Last month Heritage History has sent us a CD copy of
Early America from their Classical Library Collection

I was happy to see that it was filled with over 80 titles covering the American colonies to the First World War.

The American library focuses less on politics than many American History curriculums, but includes biographies and short stories about explorers, settlers, inventors, military heroes, writers, presidents, and Indian leaders. American Indian history is treated thoroughly, with over sixteen books on the subject. American Negro and Spanish American histories are also covered thoroughly.

My children are still considered early readers (green books)
so I was happy to see this series by James Otis:

It made me giggle because these are like the original Dear America Journals.

Storytelling just never goes out of style,
children love to read personal accounts of a living history.

We will be using these alongside our American History studies through out the year.

You can read more about the James Otis series here.

See all the 80+ titles included in the Early America series here.

So now that you know all about Heritage History,
are you ready to WIN some classical titles for your classroom?

Heritage History is offering up winner’s choice
of one Classical Library CD, and one Classical Curriculum CD!

There will be TWO Winners!

How to Enter:
1. Check out the Classical Library CD’s, and the Classical Curriculum CD’s.
Come back and tell me which title from each that you would want.
(If you’re the winner, you’ll get BOTH your picks, so choose wisely!)

Additional Entry:
2. Leave me comment with your children’s favorite History story.

Contest ends Friday, October 4, 2012 11:59pm.
Winner will be drawn at random, and this post will be updated.

Disclaimer: As an affiliate of Heritage History I received free product for review purposes, and a percentage of sales is credited back to me. All opinions are my honest thoughts about this product.

Comment #198: Canaan Herkamp who said, “My 2011 resolution for homeschooling is to be more consistent.”

40% off ABC Fun & 1-2-3 by Shirley’s Preschool Activities

25% off any product by The SMARTSeeds Company
using the code ccblogsmartseeds.

Original Post follows:

We are officially ending the first month of the new year!

You know what that means right?

It means that we’ve all had at least 30 days to test out our New Years Resolutions!

So how’s it going for you?

Are you cruising along a steady pace?

Are you slowly puttering out?

Or are you starting to realize your headed in the wrong direction?

Well more on that later….

But lets just say that we took a big “Homeschool Step”

At this point it is still undetermined whether this was

A Forward step,

Or a Backward step,

Or perhaps even a Sideways step.

But undoubtedly a Step was made.

And we’re rolling with it.

I will say that Part of that step involves the choosing of new curriculum.

(I can hear your shock through the speakers on my computer)

Shhhh….Calm down. I know you think I’ve got it all figured out.

But I don’t. Not even close.

Because seriously?

What kind of a teacher changes their entire way of homeschooling in the middle of the year?

Especially without a new way of homeschooling to replace the old one.

Perhaps, when something isn’t working you just have to throw it out before you contaminate the baby with
the dirty bath water.

Or something like that? Hmmm.

You’ll have to forgive me, I’m a bit sleep deprived.

(nursing will do that to you)

(So will nursing while shopping for homeschool curriculum.)

Lately because of said STEP, I’ve been spending the wee hours of the night over here. And here and here.

But mostly my time has been spent HERE:

Because I love INSTANT gratification.

Yup. I’m American, what can I say.

I love that I can click “Buy” and I have my children’s lessons printed up and in my hand within the hour. I love that I can print multiple copies for both my children, and that I can save the downloads for my two babies should I still have my wits about me and decide to homeschool them too.

The only bad thing that I could ever say about this site is that some materials are so colorful that it would be easier for me to just go purchase a full color workbook from the nearest teacher store instead.

Well, apparently I’m not the only one in the world….Ahem… who thought that
because CurrClick is now in the process of adding PRINTED materials to their website

Really Cool right?

I think this idea ranks right up there with their earlier addition of Live Classes!

CurrClick just keeps getting better and better!

And this week it’s better for you!

Because after reading that enormously long introduction,
You are now at the part where you get to win something!

Just look at all the goodies that we get to give away:

Currclick has graciously offered to give away some really neat products!

Simply Music Live Class Camp by Natural Notes

My ABC Scrapbook by 212 Mom

Pick & Draw Review & Giveaway!

Rich Davis, Creative Genius has sent us a fantastic card game, one to review, and one to share with you!

The game is called Pick and Draw and it’s a card game with easy to follow instructions for simple drawings that kids can create.

One of my favorite parts of this game is that Rich included easy to read instructions for kids. (I’m so tired of breaking out my granny glasses and spending half an hour trying to figure out how to play children’s games)

Besides being quick and easy to set up, this game is very simple to play! You start by organizing the cards into the correct decks (which are very brightly color coded
(Did I mention creative genius?)

Then, starting with the face cards you….Pick & Draw:

Then you Pick & Draw again:

Everytime you Pick and Draw a new feature for your character, and in the end you have a custom character created by you…..I mean your kids, cause this game is for them….

Okay it’s for you too….seriously, get a set and you won’t be able to resist:

We played this game in a few different ways,
Each of us drawing with the same cards:

And then each of us using our own set of cards:

Then we couldn’t help but color our little characters in and naming them:

As we played I loved listening to the little giggles as the kiddos drew a new card, “Oh boy, this one is going to be crazy!”
This is the perfect game for family night as everyone can play (without being on Mom or Dad’s team……yes that’s right, a chance to be your own person again!)

Bubba (5) spent the most time playing it!
We all took a break for lunch but he continued to play……(if you know anything about my son the fact that he chose drawing over food really says something!)
Here is one character he made incorporating his love of both:

And can’t you just see the Homeschool application for this game! Let children create a story around their characters, or turn their creations into stick puppets and put on a show! Best of all….Look at the size of the game! Not only will it fit in the kids stockings this year, but hey….punch holes in the corner, put it on a key ring and pull it out for long travel trips….or in our case, Dr. Visits.

How to Enter:

1. Visit the Pick & Draw website, and try your hand at their online game. Come back and leave me a comment with what you think!
2. Subscribe to Draw with Rich (the creative genius). Come back and leave me an extra comment telling me you did.
3. Like Pick & Draw on Facebook. Leave an extra comment telling me.
4. Subscribe to my blog The Crafty Classroom. Leave me a comment letting me know you subscribe.

I’ll draw a winner this Sunday December 12th.

::Giveaway:: Design a Book!

I just LOVE Homeschool Shopping.

And I REALLY LOVE when I find things for a bargain.

But then of course…..

(since it’s such a great deal)

I purchase more then I need.

(Really….you’d think I ran a Zoo over here)

I’m implusive like that.

Bad for me….but Good for You, because this week I’ll be participating in the Curriculum Clean Out!

The Curriculum Clean Out is a Blog Carnival for everyone else out there like me who has extra Homeschool stuff lying around, stuff that:

“We will someday, possibly down the road, in the next seven years, put to good use.”

In reality it sits in the back shelf of a closet never to be seen again.

(But we’re somehow comforted by the fact that IF we ever DID learn about Mollusks native to Europe we have just the right creatures tucked away)

I’m kidding…..There are no LIVING creatures in my closets….

But anyway, I thought I was the only one with an overabundance of Homeschooling materials that are perfectly useable, but just didn’t fit our Family Teaching style.

Apparently there are others out there with the same exact problems blessings as me:

Too much Homschool Stuff.

(Enter: Curriculum Clean Out) props to Jolanthe

And we all have clean closets again.

(Sort of…..You know that is, if we don’t WIN anything from someone else’s closet)

But moving along to what I have to give this year:

Create Your Own Pop Up Books

This is a fantastic art set for your children, (Teacher Choice Award 2009) and it includes everything you need to make two adorable hardcover pop up books! There are stickers, markers, pre-folded and sticky tabbed pop-up shapes. There are also a few pages of instructions for how to assemble the different pop-up’s!

There is one Large Book, and one Smaller Book, and the recommended age level is 5+. Sissy (7) easily handled this project on her own, but Bubba (4) worked on his book with Mom…..and they turned out adorable! Here is my little guys book he (we) made about his Dad:

Totally Cute Right?

Okay, so here’s how you can win this art set for your little kiddos:

1). (mandatory) Leave a comment below
letting me know about a fun craft your kids did this summer.

2). Follow my Blogs RSS Feed (leave an extra comment letting me know)
3). Follow me on Twitter (leave an extra comment letting me know)

Good Luck! And don’t forget to enter all the other Curriculum Clean Out Giveaways linked here!

And if you really want to get serious, check out this new website where you can share your curriculum ALL YEAR LONG!

Comment #27 by Charlene, who said:

These are so cute!
Here are my picks: M31, F9, M32, M3, M41, S66, S65, S42

Thank you!

Congratulations Charlene, a $15 gift card at Oh So Girly will really go a long way!

Thanks to everyone for participating, and don’t forget to bookmark the site for when you need a fabulous and frugal gift (or for when you want to spoil your own little girl!)

Original Post Follows:

Last week a package arrived at my house.

I haven’t ordered anything online lately so I was a bit confused….

It had the correct address but it had a different name.

I looked at the return address, and it was from: “Oh So Girly”

Uh?………Really Strange?

I must admit that my insecurity curiosity got the better of me

And I opened it.

(Seriously, if a package like that came to your house tell me you wouldn’t open it…

Don’t lie…..”Oh SO Girly” could mean so many different things…..

Especially when it comes addressed to another woman.

Anyway, as I opened the package I was stunned by the most beautiful, (and innocent) contents:

Little Girls Hairbows

So after berating myself for my “gutter” of a mind, and mentally apologizing to my husband for whatever jealous fear was still lingering in my heart, I quickly tracked down the owner of Oh So Girly (Bridgette) and let her know that I mistakenly received her package.

Long story short, the bows have been delivered to their rightful owner, and Bridgette has offered to let me host a Giveaway to share all her beautiful bows with all of you.

(You see folks, Honesty Pays!)

(Even if you do commit a federal offense in the process)

On to the part that concerns you!

Bridgette is offering a $15 gift certificate towards any purchase of her
Oh So Girly creations

Which, if you take a second to check out the prices of her bows, you’ll soon realize that your $15 will stretch a long way.

Most of the bows on her site are priced from $1-$4

(from my experience, that is an Amazing deal!)

SO, anyway, I’ve been all over the Oh So Girly Website picking out my favorite bows, here are a couple of the ones I would choose:

So, if you want to win a nice set of hairbows for your little girl…..or your neighbors little girl…..or your cousins little girl…..or your miniature poodle who happens to be a boy, but you dress him like a girl… on:

How to Enter:
1. Go to the Oh So Girly Website and Pick out your favorite bow(s).
2. Come back here and leave a comment with which one(s) you would choose. (They have their own little codes next to the photos to make it easier)
