Our 2012 Homeschool Curriculum

Nevertheless, here are our 2012 Curriculum Choices.

This is a bit long because I have them attached to our goals for the year.
I have found that writing GOALS and ACTION plans help me to see how we will
be putting the resources to work on a daily basis.

If you’re just interested in WHAT we are using, look for the RESOURCES
under each topic.

Bible Study

Goals:
• BUILD CHARACTER (honestly my biggest goal every year…..for me too)
• Memorize entire Awana book

Resources:
Sunday School
Awana Program
Heroines of the Past (Sissy)
LifePac Bible (Bub)
Lessons in Righteousness, We Choose Virtues

In Action:
Each week children will attend Sunday School and Awana programs. On Monday children will review their Sunday School lesson and complete any take home sheets. Bub will work on his LifePac through out the week, Sissy will complete her bible study by Friday.

Day 1: Review Sunday School Lesson, Awana Verse
Day 2: Study and Recite Awana Verse with help
Day 3: Study and Recite Awana Verse with no help.
Day 4: New Story for Awana Verse
Day 5: Bible Study Due, Awana Verse

Reading/Language Arts

Goals:
Expand Vocabulary
Expand Comprehension

Resources:
Learning Language Arts Through Literature Gr.4 & Gr.2
Christian Light Reader & Workbook Gr.4 & Gr.2

In Action:
Both children will complete daily lessons with LLATL.
Children will have 1 week to complete each CL lesson. They can work at their own pace and will be responsible for making sure their work is completed by Friday.

Day 1: LLATL, CL
Day 2: LLATL, CL
Day 3: LLATL, CL
Day 4: LLATL, CL
Day 5: LLATL, CL

Writing

Goals:
• Write at Grade Level
• Expand Vocabulary, Spelling
• Refine Handwriting Skills.
• Produce an end of the year report (biography on president)
• Keep a basic daily writing journal

Resources:
Composition Notebooks for Daily Journal
Writing Strands 3 (Sissy)
Writing Guides (Bubba)
Building Spelling Skills 3 (Sissy) Building Spelling Skills 2 (Bubba)
Happy Scribe Copybook for Handwriting

In Action:
Children will have daily writing in their journals based on a story starter topic. Bubba will write 3 sentences, Sissy will write 5.
Sissy will follow sequential lessons in writing strands. Bub will work on thematic writing guides. Both children will follow daily lessons in spelling.

Day 1: Journal, Writing Lesson, Spelling
Day 2: Journal, Writing Lesson, Spelling
Day 3: Journal, Writing Lesson, Spelling
Day 4: Journal, Writing Lesson, Spelling
Day 5: Journal, Writing Lesson, Spelling

Math

Goals:
SPEED. Must Master those Math Facts.
Proficiency with Multiplication, Division & Skip Counting Facts 1-12.
Grade Level Math completion.

Resources:
Math-U-See Gamma Bubba
EnVision Math Grade 4 Sissy
Minute Math Drills

In Action:
Children will complete one math lesson each day. Sissy will begin to use a graph paper notebook to record answers.
Both children will take a minute math drill every day, with an incentive for beating the clock.

Day 1: Sequential Lesson, Math Drill
Day 2: Sequential Lesson, Math Drill
Day 3: Sequential Lesson, Math Drill
Day 4: Sequential Lesson, Math Drill
Day 5: Weekly Test, Math Drill Incentive

History

Goals:
Continue our studies on Biblical History
Continue our Visual Timeline book
Expand American History (Lewis & Clark)

Resources:
Mystery of History
Notebooking Printables
Blank Timeline Printables
Heritage History
Notebooking Living Books Printables

In Action:
We will review last years timeline, and then pick up at Joseph.
Every so often we’ll throw in a living book from HH as they fit with our topics.

Day 5: Review & Quiz

Geography

Goals:
Connect Geography with History
Learn map reading, mapmaking, and more terms through studying the Holy lands.
Map and understand the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Review and retain our 50 States and Capitols. Work on locations and spelling.

In Action:

Physical Education/Health
Goals:
Play one team sport per season.
Show and understand sportsmanship

Community Sports
Family Time Fitness
Abeka Health

In Action:
Depending on scheduling, children will either take a Family Time Fitness lesson or participate in their sport. One additional health/nutrition lesson to be completed by the end of the week.

Day 4: FTF or Sport
Day 5: FTF, Nutrition Lesson

Science

Goals:
WORLDVIEW!
Learn about scientific inquiry
Keep a nature journal of flowers, insects, animals near our home

Resources:
Truth in Science
The Backyard!

In Action:
Children will have two science lessons a week.
They will be responsible for one journal entry in their nature journal each week. Entries can be a drawing, photgraph, description, poem, story, list, rubbing…ect.

Day 1: TIS
Day 2:
Day 3: TIS
Day 4:
Day 5: Journaling due.

Social Studies

Goals:
It’s an election year!
We’ll learn about branches of government, process of election, voting, the constitution and more.
Know some key Presidents and contributions, Sissy can begin to learn them all.
Choose one President for end of the year report (tie in with writing)

Resources:
Democracy in Action
President Flash Cards
Always IceCream & Clever Dragons to review US Presidents

In Action:
We will be group notebooking all about our government.
Children will read a biography on a president of their choice, and prepare a small report as an end of the year project.

Art

Goals:
Learn a couple more Famous Artists
Begin to learn techniques to drawing

Resources:
Artpac

In Action:
Each week, children will complete one art lesson from their Artpac at their own leisure. Through out the year, I will bring in a few short Art History lessons with a corresponding project.

Foreign Language: Rosetta Stone Spanish?

Music: Hmmmm….
