There is just something unique about boys.
They are in constant need of adventure:
They don’t mind a little bit of dirt:

And they see the world from a completely different perspective:

They are just Boys
who will soon be MEN.
I have 3 of these little adventure seekers,
and if there is one thing I’ve learned in
my few 6 “BoyMom” years it’s that:
Boys are unique. They are different.
They are hard for me to understand.
They do the exact opposite of what I think they would do.
But the biggest difference that I’ve noticed,
is that Boys require SO MUCH MORE OF MY TIME,
SO MUCH MORE OF MY PATIENCE, and SO MUCH MORE OF MY PATIENCE
Oh and did I mention SO MUCH MORE OF MY PATIENCE?
(Yes, I’m aware that typing in CAPS is akin to yelling…that’s what I”m doing right now)
And I’d like to follow up all that yelling with a extra bold sigh:
SIGH.
There. Okay. Got it all out.
But really……Raising boys is tough.
(And I’m only 6 years in.)
Raising boys to be REAL men, is even harder.
About the Book:

Raising Real Men, by Hal and Melanie Young
Raising Real Men is a book written specifically to parents of boys. There isn’t a step by step outline for how to have a real man in 20 days, there is just a simple outline of the REAL issues that today’s parents face, with some biblical suggestions for handling them. It’s a quick read, very straightforward, and written in a way that you feel like your sitting in your living room listening to Hal and Melanie gush their insider details of raising their own little fellas.
There is something for Boy-Mom’s of all ages and stages, dealing with topics such as: Virtues, Heroes, Leadership, Competition, Violence, Stewardship, Responsibility and more!
You can read a sample chapter here
Here are some of my favorite quotes from this book:
“They will have heroes. For their own sakes, make sure they’re the right ones.”
“Too often, Christ is presented to boys as an unimpressive, feeble, almost effeminate character…”
Wow! What a reminder to teach the “full character of Christ” and to learn the fear of the Lord! How Awesome is He, and every knee shall bow. There is none stronger, none wiser and non more exalted then He. He is the ULTIMATE HERO and should be taught to boys as such!
On Healthy Competition:
“The Bible uses athletic competition as an analogy for the Christian life, with rules to obey, a struggle to overcome, and even a desire to come out on top of the field. It’s not a bad thing at all, if kept in the proper perspective.”
On playing with weapons:
“This is a distinction the world simply doesn’t get. They believe that if the environment is controlled, the heart will follow meekly along.”
There is even a chapter on homeschooling!
“Boys are girls are made by God to be different and that impacts how they learn and how they manage learning.”
About the Authors: (Real Parents!)

“Hal and Melanie Young have been blessed with six real boys (and two real girls). They have homeschooled through eight high-risk pregnancies, three re-locations, two decades, and 181 degrees of longitude. Hal and Melanie have served on the Board of Directors of North Carolinians for Home Education for over 14 years, including three terms as President for Hal. They have published articles with The Foundation for Economic Education, Homeschooling Today, the John Locke Foundation, Homeschool Digest, TEACH Magazine, Homeschool Enrichment, the N.C.
