So I’ve alluded to the fact that I recently decided to seriously change up our homechool curriculum.
I wanted to explain more about that decision, but first you need to know a little background:
Most of you know I just had a baby.
Some of you know that before that baby,
I had just had a baby.
A Few of you know that this year we also moved.
(not too far, we’re still Oregonians!)
And there might even be a few of you that know
how crazy my day to day life can really get.
Well, standing there amidst all those life changes…..
I worried.
Isn’t there a bible verse about that?
Yikes…there are quite a few.
I was worried that with all the other life changes that were going on, that I simply wouldn’t have my wits about me to teach my children.
I could list the many thoughts and fears that were going through my mind
but overall the main question was HOW?
HOW can I teach a 2nd Grader, a Kindergartner,
and a Tot, with a baby?
HOW am I going to get 4-6 hours sleep a night
(not in a row mind you)
and still get up and ready with a
fun filled homeschool adventure for the kids?
HOW am I not going to pull my hair out in frustration when
Dinner is burning on the stove,
Freckles is screaming,
Monkey has an accident on the carpet,
Bub is covered in finger paint, and
Sissy needs help with fractions.
HOW?
Well, I hope you haven’t read this far and expected me to answer that question.
Cause it’s not going to happen.
I have no idea HOW.
I think that’s one of the finer points in life though isn’t it?
So I’ve decided to put all that worry aside.
And instead of wondering about the HOW,
I’m going to focus more on the NOW.
(Okay, imagine I said that without soundy corny)
Cause I’m serious.
NOW, I’ve got some work to do:
MISSION 1: Restocking Rations
The search for a new Curriculum!
Stay Tuned….

Hi Valerie,
I was always opposed to curriculum kits but then I found some that still wooed my creative side and were fun! The first I highly recommend is Heart of Dakota. You can just order their guidebook and see what is at your library. Another wonderful one is My Father’s World. During this season, let your mind take care of babies and just open the HOD book to see what you might accomplish that day and still have fun :)! I hope this helps…I love your blog :)!
I vote for Five in a Row! Wait, was this a voting thing? Oh, I guess not. ;)
Still, we love FIAR and TruthQuest History with a few History Pockets thrown in and the occasional drop-everything-else-unit-study. It’s a pretty laid back approach with a lot of reading fun books. My ds9 does Saxon math on his own first thing in the morning and we read the Bible with some stick figures at breakfast, and listen to our Seeds CDs in the car. All the subjects get done, just not every day.
Hope you find the perfect fit for your family!
Can’t wait to see where you end up!!! I always wonder how you do it “all” and especially how you are doing it all NOW!!! Love you friend…praying for your decisions too!
