Puffy Polar Bear

September 14, 2010

We’re starting up our Homechool year learning about the Inuit tribes of North America!

My kiddos have been so excited to learn about the Eskimos, and all the amazing creatures of the arctic.

ooh definitely checking out the puffy paint link! One other book that is so great with your theme is The Three Snow Bears. Homeschool Share has a free lapbook to go with it. Our kids loved it. =0)

I really enjoy seeing your file folder games, so creative. When I first looked at this one I was surprised to see the term “eskimo” because we don’t use it anymore, we use Inuit. This is because we’ve been taught that our northern Canadians find ‘eskimo’ insulting. So, I looked it up on Wikipedia and it explained that American’s use ‘eskimo’ while we and Greenland use Inuit. I found that interesting. It also said that ‘eskimo’ is an umbrella term for Inuit and another group. Isn’t learning fun? There is so much to discover.
    Keep up the good work.
p.s. our professional football team are still the Edmonton Eskimos…not the Edmonton Inuits–that just doesn’t have the same ring eh?

This is fabulous! I think I’m going to try this (but add some colorings) for a homeschool co-op I’m teaching this month. We’re studying animals (Mammals this week) so I think I’ll let each child draw their favorite mammal and paint it.

Thank you for the clever (and inexpensive) idea!
