Un-bias Tape

May 2, 2009

I cannot stand this stuff……

Why can’t I ever get it to work right?

Is it just me, or is this the most difficult stuff to work with?

Maybe I just grabbed the “Wrong” package at the store?

Or perhaps it’s the patterns that I don’t understand

Because it took me like 30 minutes to sew this entire shirt

Until I got to the sleeves….

The sleeves which strangely call for Bias Tape.

I shudder at the word.

Just look at that mess!

It’s driving the perfectionist in me absolutely crazy…..and yet, at this point I’m content to just be done with it, pack it up and move on to the next project….

Something without bias-tape.

If it wasn’t for this silly stuff…..

This would have been the fastest shirt I’ve ever sewn

This would have been my favorite summer staple

This would have been worth making all the extra cardstock patterns
(yes, I had big plans for this one)

And….This would have taken me 35 minutes instead of 2 hours.

But you know what, even the 2 hours was worth it when I saw how excited Sissy was to have a matching shirt for her “Strawberry Shortcake Skirt”

She wears them well doesn’t she!

And at the end of the day, I’m just excited that I got the button right. We can only learn so many new skills per project I guess….

And for those of you who are just as upset with this Bias-Tape stuff, won’t you join me for a short little viewing of this video….

“The No Swearing Bias Tape Method”

Isn’t it grand what you can find online!

I have never used bias tape, but I am sure it would frustrate me. I have a love for sewing, but I don’t get along with my sewing machine. I love your outfit though, you did a great job!

And I say…..it’s in their underarms.

    “Keep your arms down sweetie.”

    :) It looks great!

I think you did a wonderful job on this. Its an adorable outfit! My daughter caught a glimpse of it and said she liked it, and once I mentioned it was a “Strawberry Shortcake” skirt, she said she wants one too. lol Im totally new at sewing (working on my first project actually – a sundress for my 2 yr old) This may be one of my future attempts. Being new, this might be a silly question, but would it hurt to leave the bias tape off when I do it? Just wondering…
Congrats again on doing such a fine job! :)
